These Shoes Are Made For Walking…Sort Of

by the Provident Woman | November 7th, 2009

You know how things go… You set a goal… You have every good intention to follow through with this goal… You lose interest in the goal… You give up the goal…

This is me to a T. I can’t seem to follow through a specific goal. But today is the day. I’ve decided it. It’s official, especially because I’m telling you. It’s no longer some goal that I’m keeping to myself or just telling my husband I plan on doing it. That never seems to work. The more he tries to encourage the more I lose interest. I love ya, honey, but for some reason you have to stay out of my personal goals. Especially when they come to my body.

That’s right, my goal is to get back into shape. I used to be one of those people that worked out daily. I even used to run. Then… I got married… I had a baby… I had another baby… I had a job… I had another baby… I got meningitis… I watch other people’s babies… I’ve gotten lazy…

I’m going to change things. Today I’m going run/walking. I have every intention of running but since I know I’m out of shape, 20-25 pounds more than I used to be, I’ll have to start slow. I plan on doing this at a minimum of 3 days a week, a maximum of 5 days a week. I also thought I’d try that Special K Challenge.

Give me until Thanksgiving and I’ll let you know how I did. If I did. And then on Thanksgiving I can gain it all back. Viscous, wonderful holiday.

Wish me luck!!!

You can do it!! A great tool, my mom used it and it worked WONDERS for her, is the couch to 5k program. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml You can check it out at that link. It takes you from not being a runner to being a 5k runner and beyond.
Good luck… and stick to it. I can’t wait to hear about your progress.

Good for you! I found myself feeling the same way this past April so I started walking, watching what I ate and so far I’ve lost 26 pounds. My goal was 30, so I’m only 4 pounds away!

Good luck! We’ve been on WW since August. I’m down a whopping 10 lbs and DH is down around 35 lbs. I’ve been having a much more difficult time with it than he has, which really bums me out. It’s tough! School is almost over, though, so hopefully I can get a better routine going.

I take exception to your self-description of lazy. Of all the young people I know, no one else worked three jobs – full time daycare (50 hours per week), 3 -5 nights (6 p.m. to whenever) at the movie theater, baking 20-30 pies every Friday and farmers maket every Saturday morning May through October. So LAZY you are not. Love mom

YOU can do it! You will stick to it and you will come out on the other side VICTORIOUS! Blogging about it also keeps it at the forefront of your mind so you can’t get sidetracked or “forget” – can’t wait to read your progress – it will help me in my progress!

I DO wish you luck. I lost 31 pounds just from walking and portion control. I haven’t walked much since the last of Sept cuz I had a gall bladder removed. I finally got in my first two half miles this past week. Normally, I’d been walking about 100 miles a month. I sure do miss it. I hope to get back to my “normal” walks by the first of the year.

And by the way: I have walked all the parks and walking trails in Johnson County, KS. Love ‘em all.
