H1N1 Shot Up Our Noses…That’s A Step Toward Progress

by the Provident Woman | November 5th, 2009

So we did it. We went and got our H1N1 Vaccinations. My kids qualified, well, because they’re kids. My hubby and I qualify because I started watching a newborn every morning.

So I made my sexy man get off work a couple hours early so we could take Anya out of school and go get in line. Our health department only has 1000 doses and they had a hour and a half clinic the day before.

Now the rest of the pictures are black and white because I can’t assosiate something like the flu with vibrant, pretty pictures. I just can’t. It’s just not right.

The girls were really good. I told all of the kids we were just going on a picnic. We did have 2 hours before the clinic started. The kids had snacks, a blanket and things to draw and color on. All set.

Then Anya started asking “why is our picnic in a line? What is everyone lined up for?”

My answer… “to go in the building.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know. I saw a line and thought we’d hop in.”

And she bought it. I thought they were going to have to get shots. Last shot Anya had to get I had to lay across her to keep her on the exam table. So you can understand my bending of the truth. I do not lie after all.

Kailey found fun in the leaves.

And, oh, the fun she had. It kept her busy most of the time. The books and food didn’t last long. Luckily, the tree brought along leaves for the kids to play with.

And me being crazy and us getting there 2 hours early wasn’t quite as stupid as Clint thought it was. Look what was lined up with an half hour to go. And trust me, this line was way longer than this.

Finally the time has arrived.

We all lucked out.

We got the vaccine in the nasal spray form.

Well all of us except Dean. Poor guy watched us all sniff stuff up our nose and was actually excited for his turn (he was last). And then no…they stick him in the leg. He was so angry.

And the kids have to do this all over again. Do you think I could send them to stand in line for 2 hours next time by themselves? They aren’t able to get the second dose for a month. December shouldn’t be too cold. Right? And they’re responsible enough.

I know, I know. My mom qualifies for the shot too because she helps me in my daycare all of the time. So maybe she’ll take them for me. I bet she will. She’s the coolest.

So now the health department is out of doses and has no idea when they will get any more. Hope everyone who stood in line got one.

My daughter’s school was doing an H1N1 vaccine clinic but my daughter went and caught it before we could get her inoculated. As I told her “Well…at least you don’t have to get it done now!”

My children got the seasonal vaccine, but I’m not doing the H1N1 because of the shortage. I would rather people who need it get it (my pregnant friends, my friends who have children with compromised immune systems, etc). I understand why you would get it because the baby you’re watching can’t. I’m glad you were able to get it. My neighbor’s 2 year old got the first dose, but they told her they probably wouldn’t have a 2nd dose to give her. It’s crazy how many children have had it in our community. So far they have all had mild cases and after a day or two of rest have been fine. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it stays far away from my house!

My little brother just got the H1N1 vaccine. He works in a hospital. It’s probably for the best, though. Out of the two of us, if there is an illness to be had, he’ll get it. I do think he may have gotten the regular flu a couple of weeks later, though.

They’re OUT? Jeremy had called and they said there would be a clinic tonight from 5-7. I think he was planning on us going. I guess we should call first to see if they have any.

oh, and I should note… you have to LIVE in Geary Co to use the Geary Co. Health Dept, so don’t go rushing over there from Manhattan!

Ugh… I just shudder looking at the pictures. I feel like this is mass hysteria… there is no proof that vaccine even works…but they HAVE proven that the side effects can be far worse then the flu itself!!

I just hope that you dont get the flu anyway. Seems like that happens to alot. And they get sicker and stay sicker longer.

    God bless-
    Amanda
