Practice Makes Perfect

by the Provident Woman | November 8th, 2009

I’m sure your familiar with the old axiom, “Practice makes perfect.” My husband and I often find ourselves discussing our children’s educations. Are they learning enough, are they taught well, do they understand, how can we help them advance and learn?

We value literacy as the core foundation for education. We read as a family every morning, which is one way we help each family member learn to read. Our children are often seen walking around with books in hand and sitting in corners and on beds and on chairs, reading (or at least looking at pictures).

Now don’t get me wrong…toys, cartoons, coloring, playing and pretending are major parts of their day, but they enjoy reading…or at least the appearance of it when it comes to our three year old.

Our first grader enjoys writing, and even though we may have to guide her spelling and grammer, she keeps working on it day after day. Recently, we got MANUSCRIPT LETTERS by Practice Power which helps children learn the fundamental techniques of printing both upper and lower case letters. My husband used books like these when he was a kid – paper and pencil. Unlike most types of lettering and numbering booklets, thisĀ Practice Pals series uses Dry Erase Markers and Erasable Crayons so that they can be used and re-used, practiced and re-practiced. This is a great tool for Pre-School, Kindergarten and First Grade Age children.

Have a child learning addition or subtraction? Try the Practice Pals Addition and Subtraction booklets.

Have a child learning to count? Try the Practice Pals Counting booklet.

Even if you have a child learning cursive, there is a Cursive Letters booklet for that too.

I really like this series for young children. If you have children that you want to start learning early or practice in addition to what they’re learning at Pre-School, Kindergarten or First Grade I highly recommend checking them out.

We did the Phonics program when I was in first grade. I remember tracing and practicing my letters and loved it!

My daughter is in Kindergarten and we’ve really been working hard to get her to know the alphabet. Those practice pages with the dry erase markers look perfect. Thanks for sharing.
