Drummonds On The Go

by the Provident Woman | November 17th, 2009

We went! That’s right I dragged Clint to the Girls Night Out and Ree’s (The Pioneer Woman) book signing in Kansas City last night.

The weather wasn’t the best so we left extra early to make it to KC in time. We were WAY early. We were the 10th and 11th people there. Out of 100′s. So we waited. And waited.

The chairs looked so lonely.

But we had a nice interruption to our boredness. The Marlboro Man, Ladd, and their boys dropped in to drop off their trash.

Just kidding. They were trash bags full of t-shirts that everyone got.

Then Ree came out. And was sweating already. She said it was because of nerves. But that lady never seemed the least bit nervous.

She was fun and witty. And both of the questions I submitted were asked and answered. I felt overly important.

There was a giveaway, but of course I didn’t win. I never win any of her giveaways. One of these days that will change though. I’m determined.

The boys really like the microphone. Marlboro Man was on top of it though and Ree just ignored it.

Oh, yes she did! She did it again!!! And it was funny and great!

Then the line started to have our books signed. But this line was not for Ree.

It was for the Marlboro Man.

That’s right. I’m a dork and had him sign my book. But I also had him sign my extra book that I plan to give away. Woo Hoo!

I look over excited and he looks bored. But he was a good sport. And I don’t know why I look so goofy.

There was even another line. This one was for the little men. Don’t worry, I didn’t bother them. But the little girls lined up and they were really cute.

Then it was back to waiting for Ree. They called people by their ticket numbers, 1-50 then up to 100 etc. Our tickets were 520 and 521. It look almost 3 and a half hours to get up there. Man, I wished we had eaten before we got there. Or went during the long wait. But I’ve never been to anything like this before and had no idea how long it would take.

But luckily my friend April from Coal Creek Farm was there. She is so entertaining.

I had to show this picture for many reasons. First, to prove I know April (our husbands work together and she got me started in this whole blogging business). Second, to prove I never should wear this shirt. I look like a candy cane on steroids. Hence, the diet I’m on. And third, to prove how tall Ms April is. I felt like a dwarf. It didn’t help that she was wearing heals and I was wearing flat tennis shoes.

Clint got so tired of waiting. Poor guy. He, too, was such a good sport.

But it was all worth the wait. See how excited Clint was. So I don’t think he minded the wait.

Do you want to know the best part? Do ya? Do ya?

When she was making out the books the first one was made out to Mary and Clint. Then I told her the second was just for a giveaway on my blog (that’s coming on a later date) and she asked what my blog was.

I told her “the Provident Woman”.

Guess what she said. Guess.

“I know you!” And then she clobbered me with a hug.

That’s when I really felt important and it made my night. Thanks Ree! It was worth the wait.

But the night was not over….

I am so jealous!!! I went to the signing in Salt Lake City but after waiting 2 hrs outside in the freezing cold, i gave up. I wish it had been in an auditorium like you had. I love that you had MM sign your books, i totally would’ve done that. And i LOVE that she knows your blog! That is very cool. I’ve wondered if she ever has time to look at any of the blogs that follow her and i guess she does! Glad you had fun :-)

Hooray for Pioneer Woman! I love her. Your husband is so sweet and patient. My husband is like that too… I think you and I are pretty lucky to have found guys that will do things like that and not complain (and even smile!)

What are the odds she’ll come to Oregon for a book signing? I’m thinking I’m just going to have to be content to live vicariously through you! :) Thanks for the great recap! I loved it!

Great posting of the Gala Event! It was nice to meet you and April.
You ended up with some very nice photos.
I’m still weeding through mine…besides still learning my new camera, I guess I can’t complain since I heard so many others talking, that they were having horrific problems especially when taking photos aimed towards the stage. Something about the combination of the lightening and the red chairs / carpet…not sure but it sure did a number on photo taking.
    Sure was a fun night.

Sweet! That must have felt so good–that Ree KNEW you! Lucky, lucky, lucky. I’m not even going to bother telling you I’m jealous… kind of speaks for itself.

How cool for you!! And MM doesn’t look bored, just tired – or is that the deer-in-the-headlights look? And you do NOT look like a dork. Thanks for sharing your evening with the rest of us little people who didn’t get to be there. Glad you had a great time!

I think you look very pretty in your candy cane striped shirt! How exciting for you to get to go and meet Ree and her fam! I am very jealous. The closest stop to me was SLC and I’m sad I couldn’t go!

You got a t-shirt?! I wish she would have given away t-shirts at the signing I went to! Thankfully she did 2 signings in Tulsa because I missed the first. But, I didn’t get no stinkin’ t-shirt!

Looks like you guys had fun… that’s great.

Way cool story. Sounds like a great experience! Grats. :) I, too, wish I had gone to the Denver signing–was having a crappy time around then, but ah well!

Ah, lucky lady!!! And how sweet of your man to accompany you. I’m pretty sure I would have to lie and tell my hubby we were attending a monster truck rally or elk calling seminar to get him there. I think Ree seems like a super-cool person and definitely the pot o’ gold in the world of us bloggers…and she knows you! Glad for you!

That is awesome! I went to her booksigning in SLC and we waited and waited. I don’t think the bookstore had a clue as to how many people would show up so they weren’t as prepared as they should have been. Things worked out and we made it in. Ree was very nice as was Missy. We got to talk to her quite a bit. Her book is so beautiful! Glad you had the opportunity to go!

*sigh* I’m jealous. I had hoped to make it to one of her signings here in the upper Midwest, but the stars were not aligned to make it so. It looks like you had a fabulous time :)

You went to Ree’s booking signing and met MM!! You are a very lucky gal!! I would be more excited meeting her than a celebrity!
As well, she knew who you were!! I feel privileged being that I know you through your blog. It’s kind of like “degrees of separation”. I checked out Ree’s book tour schedule and thought that even it was remotely close to Ontario, Canada…I would make the drive! However, I am the very proud owner of her cookbook and have looked at it many times!! A few of her recipes have made me very popular but the thing is that I don’t want to reveal my secret!! Great pics. Do you drive a Vibe? I’m thinking that we drive the exact car and colour??!! Let me know.
