Miss Independent

by the Provident Woman | November 20th, 2009

My 3 year old is trying to set her place as the most independent person in our family. I took her with me on an errand today. Just me and her. She was sitting there so quietly and suddenly shouts “THERE’S THE MOVIE THEATER”.

“Yep, that’s where mommy works at night.”

“I’m going to work there when I’m  big like you. And I’m going to drive myself. I don’t want help.”

But wont someone need to teach her how? She’ll need help with that, right?

Not to worry! There will be plenty of things she needs you for, before that time arrives. Relax and enjoy this time to the fullest!

Nope. If she’s thinking that far ahead, she’ll teach herself and before you know it… All you can do is enjoy the ride.

At least that’s what happened at our house.

She is too cute….I love how she wants to do it herself. I’m getting ready to begin teaching daughter number two how to drive. The first went fairly well, I have a feeling this one is going to whiten my hair though!!

Good lessons she’s learning – and she’s smart, too!

I wanted to be a grocery store clerk when I grew up. I did it, too. For almost three years during high school and college. You know what? I got more “career” satisfaction from those paychecks than I have from a single one since I finished my English degree. I’m thinking about applying for a part-time grocery position just to get that joy back into my life for a few months. I loved the customer interactions, especially the older folks and little kids who were regulars. Let her follow her dreams. My parents cringed when I, at six, declared to the K-3 teachers that I would work at Kroger when I graduated. They never stopped me from earning my own dollars, though. You can’t beat that!

When my daughter was almost 5 I remember driving her to gymnastics class. She said, “When I grow up I’m going to have a job.” I said, “Great. What are you going to do?” She answered as seriously as possible, “I’m going to drive your car.” Hmm. Better start saving for her salary. =)

So cute! I don’t have kids but I sure remember being like that myself… I probably still *am* like that myself. Great post and amazing pictures as always.

My now 4-year-old showed (and continues to show) that same spunk as your girl. I remember her at 2 saying “I do it by self!” LOL

What a little sweet heart. Just wait until she is a teenager and wants to do everything herself and her way.

My husbands iphone. It's applications are really useful and easy to get too!

Our Quicken finance software. Because it's nice to remember that you actually had money before paying the bills.
