RADA Cutlery Rocks My Kitchen! [Giveaway]

by the Provident Woman | January 22nd, 2010

First I must apologize for the pictures in this post.

I had asked my busy, busy husband to take good pictures of my knives. He’s better at photography than me and these shiny little boogers would just not cooperate with me and the light. But he felt being thrown up on by my youngest was an excuse to get out of it.

My mother buys these Rada knives as gifts for people (and herself, of course). I LOVE THEM. So I thought I would show you the knives I’ve accumulated since I’ve been married.

So here is my wonderful set of knives. I love them. I will never use another kind.

Oh, no. Maybe I shouldn’t have shown all the knives I have. What if my mom sees and she thinks I have enough? She’ll stop giving me cool knives. There are still knives I don’t have. I did see on their website some really cool ones today. My birthday is just around the corner, mom. You know, in September.

Oh, and my kind, loving mother gave me a set to give to you.

I know, I know… She’s great!

I thought a couple different knives shown were paring knives, but apparently only the small ones are paring knives. The others are, peelers, tomato slicers, “utility/steak knives”, butcher knives…I’m afraid of everything right of the peelers! Honestly, I prefer the bigger ones (the bigger the better) and my mother prefers the paring knives.

My mother prefers the paring knives, and since she prefers the paring knife, one of those is in the gift set someone will win!!!

A tomato slicer is part of this give away also. I have always used it for slicing bread and my husband for anything that moves. I didn’t even know what it was for until today. ”Tomato slicer.” It’s a veggie killer. Who knew?

Someone is going to win one of these, too.

Now, the bigger the better. To the right of the middle you see that scare pronged forky thing and the big knife to the left of it, these, I use for cutting meat. They do come in the “meat lovers” gift set after all.

The set I’m giving away will include the knife. Sorry no big pronged fork or butcher knives like in my housewife arsenol. I’m afraid. I felt it was too dangerous for me to give. Yep, and a bunch of REALLY sharp knives is much safer. I know… I know…

Now we’re really talking.

These are my FAVORITE. Like I said “the bigger the better”. (Ignore the water spots.) I use the one on the bottom for just about everything, I call it the “Persuader.” I use the one on the top when the one on the bottom is dirty.

You know my beloved dishwasher…I put my knives in the dishwasher. Don’t yell at me. That’s what a knife sharpener is for. So if you stop yelling at me I’ll throw in a knife sharpener into the mix too. The dishwasher does darken the handles a bit. Oh, well, they’re still knives when they come out.

The really sad thing is. There are times when almost all of my knives are dirty. My husband has never understood how I can cook one meal and dirty almost every dish that we own. I don’t know. It’s a gift, I guess.

So here’s the giveaway. This set of knives (and peeler) with a sharpener.

These knives also come with black handles. My mom and I prefer the silver, so that’s what the winner will get.

Hmmm… Favorite sliced food has to be fresh strawberries.

Your post reminded me of my mom. She always preferred using tiny little knives over larger ones. She owned a food processor and rarely used it, preferring to sit in her favorite spot and chopchopchop at whatever she was cooking with her small, worn, used-to-be-a steak knife.

I have large hands, so using a tiny knife for that kind of chopping makes me insane.

I love to slice carrots and potatoes, particularly because my dogs love to eat them raw, so they get the ends, and it’s so funny to hear them crunching down on some raw veggies.

I have a RADA knife, a small utility knife I have had for years, and am on my second sharpener. I love these knives. I just for some odd reason have stuck to that one knife. It is my go to for everything. The odd thing is that I got this knife and sharpener as a gift from a saw shop for providing them with a copy of a check we used to purchase a chainsaw! I wore the first sharpener out and finally got a new one this year. I’d LOVE to have more than one knife, though. Great giveaway. Beautiful blog.

I have you on my favorites too! Love your writing and all the great recipes. You’re right. You can never have enough great knives, and I’m dying to win these. If I get the good knives I will definitely hide them from my husband and kids so they won’t be used to cut boxes, twine and wood. I love to cut onions — just like Julia Child — although she definitely mastered it!

My favorite sliced food…would have to be, currently, broccoli slaw with red onion, cranberries, and almonds. I have a big bowl in my fridge. I can use my food processor to shred the broccoli, but sometimes I feel like choppin’! And the onion must be diced finely, so i use a knife for that.

I’ve had the same knives since I got married, 10 years ago. Over the years I’ve lost my paring knife and a couple others. I’m down to one trusty serrated knife I use for everything! Could definitely use some more knives.

  376. 376
