Swimming With Instruction

by the Provident Woman | July 27th, 2010

Every year my mother puts my girls in swim lessons. You see, she has a pool and my children have no fear of water. I watch other children during the day and can’t take them myself. So she has always enrolled them and taken them to their lessons.

This year the pool she has always taken them too decided to change their rules. No child under 6 years of age can attend lessons. THIS IS A PROBLEM. Kailey took lessons last year and has since learned to swim (kind of). Allowing Anya to go to lessons and not Kailey would cause all kinds of fit throwing and pouting. I really was not looking forward to dealing with it.

My mother, being the resourceful person she is (and the person paying for it), decided she didn’t like that idea either. So she found us an amazing private swim teacher.

She teaches lessons at the public pool in the morning, life guards all day and then twice a week teaches my girls to swim at night. What a great gal!

I must say, this particular gal makes me feel a little old. She was in a class that I taught when she was in 9th grade. She is now a sophomore in college. I know that doesn’t sound like much to you, but that’s weird to me.

Back to the lessons. Anya has been swimming for 2 years now. This year we are concentrating on her using actual strokes.

She loves it.

She could do it all day.

The only problem is she hasn’t figured out how to turn her head to breath while she goes.

She has mastered the butt in the air technique though.

Every so often she stops altogether and takes a breath. Then back under she goes.

Poor Dean, we don’t let him take lessons yet. Maybe next year big guy.

Kailey on the other hand gets her turn and loves every minute of it.

She loves swimming under water. We’re still working on her using her arms and feet at the same time. It’s just so much to remember at one time.

Always love visiting your blog. Hard to get such great shots of water! And, thank you for your comment on my blog – I am sorry I cannot remember where I got that shot – not mine. I hope that is OK with the blogging world? I have had it saved forever and on the 25th (2000) my daddy passed away and I was just thinking of him. I’m not sure what the shot signifies, but to me I am thinking he’s gone . . . but he isn’t.
