Everything Is Better With Butter, Even Gnocchi

by the Provident Woman | July 28th, 2010

When we lived in Italy my husband found his favorite pasta, Gnocchi. He loves it. When we came home I had to find a recipe to make it. None of our grocery stores in our town carried pre-made gnocchi. I found a pretty good recipe, but it’s kind of a pain. This year we have found 2 different stores now carry packaged gnocchi. YEAHHHHH!

We have it a lot more often now. We (I mean, I) try new recipes with the sauce every time i make it. Here are two recipes I made the other day. They are super easy. Very few ingredients and one of them is dessert. You can’t beat that. Neither one takes more than 5 or 6 minutes from start to finish. So you have dinner and dessert in 6 minutes. That’s my kind of dinner.

For the dinner Gnocchi I made Gnocchi with a Thyme Butter Sauce. Go here for a printable version.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 package (about 16 To 18 Oz. Package) Pre-made Gnocchi
  • 1 stick Butter
  • 2 teaspoons Fresh Thyme Leaves
  • 2 Tablespoons Shredded Parmesan Cheese
  •  Here’s how you do it:

Cook the packaged gnocchi according to the package. While it’s boiling…

Put the butter in a nonstick skillet.

    Add the fresh thyme leaves.

    Melt.

Once melted turn the burner down to simmer.

    Brown the butter.

When the gnocchi is done, use a slotted spoon to remove it from the water.

Add gnocchi to the skillet with the butter sauce right out of the water. Toss and continue to cook for another minute or so.

Poor gnocchi and sauce into a serving bowl.

Top with shredded Parmesan cheese. Serve right away.

The other recipe (the dessert recipe) was Gnocchi in Cinnamon Butter Sauce. Doesn’t that just sound great? Trust me it is. Click here for a printable version.

    Here’s what you need:

  • 1 package (about 16 To 18 Oz. Package) Pre-made Gnocchi
  • ½ sticks Butter
  • 1-½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar
  • Here’s how you do it:

Cook gnocchi like directed in the previous recipe.

Put butter into a nonstick skillet.

add 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon, saving the rest for later.

    Melt the butter.

Once completely melted remove from heat until the gnocchi is done. Return to heat right before adding the cooked gnocchi.

Add cooked gnocchi to the sauce.

Toss together. Pour sauce and gnocchi into a serving dish. Add the sugar and the rest of the cinnamon.

Stir to completely combine. Serve hot.

See I told ya! Nice and easy. Better yet, yummy.

There’s no such thing as too much butter. Butter only makes it better.

Oh, and come back tomorrow. There might be some fun news!!!!

We love gnocchi! At our house we call them, “little pillows of love”.

Why was I 45 years old before I learned about gnocchi? Love it. I think I need to try at least one of these recipes (at least one at a time – butter sticks to my hips). Love Mom

I love gnocchi but I’m the only one in our house that does. What is wrong with the rest of my family?
